Challenge
A 38-mile gathering-line corridor across Mountrail County with five river or creek crossings, multiple highway right-of-ways, and significant variation in overburden across the route. The midstream operator needed to lock the construction schedule, which meant locking geotech across the full route inside three weeks.
What we did
Two rigs leapfrogging along the route, one finishing while the other moved. Standard SPT and Shelby tube sampling at tower / pad / boring locations on the straight runs, deep continuous coring at the river and highway crossings.
Field reports formatted for the operator's pipeline-design GIS workflow so the boring data could be loaded directly into the routing tool.
Outcome
4,800 feet of footage, 32 borings along the route. The routing team used our log data to optimize crossings, reducing HDD locations from seven to five. That saved roughly 18 construction days on the project schedule.
OUTCOME
Routing optimization reduced HDD crossings from seven to five, saving roughly 18 days of construction schedule.
