OPEN POSITION
Driller
Grand Forks, ND (national travel) · Full-time · Reports to Lead Driller / Drilling Operations Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
MAK Drilling is the geotechnical drilling division of MAK Construction. We run soil borings, rock coring, instrumentation, and subsurface exploration out of Grand Forks and mobilize across more than 14 states. Four active rigs, CME truck and buggy units plus a tracked Mobile Drill B48X, hauled by Peterbilts. Projects include data centers, substations, highways and bridges, pipelines, and environmental sites.
We are hiring a Driller to run a rig in the field, potentially alongside a helper. We pay at the top of the market for drillers who can run efficiently, cover per diem and lodging on the road, and put you behind the wheel of a Peterbilt.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The work.
- Operate CME 75, CME 550X, CME 750, and Mobile Drill B48X rigs on production soil-boring and coring programs.
- Run SPT, Shelby tube, hollow-stem auger, mud rotary, and NQ/HQ wireline coring.
- Set, install, and develop instrumentation and monitoring wells.
- Haul, mobilize, and demobilize the rig and support truck (Peterbilt tractors), including difficult-access and wetland sites.
- Log samples accurately and hand off clean field documentation to the client engineer.
- Direct a helper on the hole, including safe rig setup, tooling, and site cleanup.
- Handle daily maintenance, greasing, fluid checks, and minor field repairs.
- Follow site safety plans and client requirements.
WHAT YOU BRING
The experience.
- 2+ years of drilling experience running a rig.
- Class A CDL, or the ability to obtain one (we will help).
- Willingness to travel nationally on a rotational basis and stay out on multi-week hitches.
- Mechanical ability to diagnose and fix problems in the field without waiting on a shop.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and work outdoors in whatever the weather is doing.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
PREFERRED
- Geotechnical experience specifically (soil borings, rock coring, instrumentation).
- Wireline coring and mud rotary.
- Difficult-access, wetland, or limited-access mobilization.
- OSHA 10 or 30, HAZWOPER 40-hour, MSHA.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Top pay in the region, depending on experience. Per diem and lodging covered on travel work. Steady year-round work on top-of-the-line, well-maintained equipment (Peterbilt, CME, and more) with a tightly knit crew, and a path to Lead Driller.
